Two IS terrorists killed in southern Philippine firefight
Dawlah Islamiyah - Hassan Group clash with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.
MAGUINDANAO DEL SUR: Two alleged members of a pro-IS local terror group were killed in a firefight with a pro-government former rebel group in the southern Philippine province of Maguindanao del Sur on Sunday (Sept. 10), it has been reported.
The 45-minute firefight occurred between Dawlah Islamiyah - Hassan Group led by a certain Abdulnasser Guianid and the 118th base command of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front in Mother Tuayan village, Datu Hoffer municipality.
The commander of the Philippine Army’s 601st Brigade, Brig. Gen. Oriel Pangcog, said the root cause of the conflict was a misunderstanding between the two sides.
Troops of the 40th Infantry Battalion immediately took up position in the area but the fighting subsided 30 minutes later.
Military and police troops who later entered the encounter site found the bodies of the two alleged Dawlah Islamiyah members, who have yet to be identified.Â
No civilians were harmed in the fighting although about 40 families were displaced from their homes in the fighting area and relocated to safe places.
The Army said they are preparing for the possibility that the terrorists will take revenge for the death of their colleagues.
