Two Abu Sayyaf members surrender in Mindanao
They surrender amid ongoing focused military operations against the terror group in southern Basilan province.
ZAMBOANGA CITY: Two Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) members have surrendered amid ongoing focused military operations against them in the southern Basilan province, a military official said.
Naval Forces Western Mindanao (NFWM) information officer Lt. Commander Muksin Jasid, in a statement Wednesday (Apr 12), said Adzhar Usman Langkang and Karasan Turabin Anta surrendered on Tuesday (Apr 11) and turned over an M16 rifle and an M1 Garand rifle with ammunition.
Jasid said the two surrenderers were presented to Rear Admiral Donn Anthony Miraflor, the NFWM commander, at the Naval Station Romulo Espaldon in Zamboanga City.
They underwent medical checkup at Camp Navarro General Hospital before their turnover to the Joint Task Force–Basilan for documentation.
They will be enrolled in the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-Clip) of the government as well as the Program Against Violent Extremism (Pave) for ASG members in Basilan.
The ASG is a terror group designated by the UN and several nations.
