BALI: Indonesia's terror attacks declined by 56 percent so far this year, a counterterrorism official reportedly said.Â
The National Counterterrorism Agency's (BNPT) Deputy for International Cooperation Andhika Chrisnayudanto provided the information on the sidelines of an ASEAN Senior Officials' working group meeting on terrorism eradication in Kuta, Badung Regency, Bali, Thursday (May 18), a report said.Â
The decline was indicated in the latest Global Terrorism Index which used three main factors namely the number of deaths, the number of attacks and the socioeconomic impact of attacks.
According to Andika, a decline in the number of terrorist attacks also occurred in 2022 where according to a statement by the National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, terrorist attacks decreased by 86 percent.Â
In addition to the decline in attacks, he said the terrorism index in Indonesia has also decreased in terms of the number of deaths and the socioeconomic impact on society and the country.Â
An example, said Andika, was a suicide bombing at the Astana Anyar Sector Police Station in Bandung, which did not claim many victims compared to other major terrorist attacks in Indonesia.
"You can see that the number of deaths is not as high as the previous year. It means that the number has decreased," he said.Â
