New chief (yet again) at Malaysian command fighting transborder terrorism, kidnapping
The new chief takes over from a predecessor who stepped up to the post only two weeks earlier.
SABAH: A new chief yet again will take over at the Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom), the agency charged with securing the Malaysian Borneo state’s east coast against transborder terrorism and kidnapping threats from the southern Philippines.
Victor Sanjos will be taking over as the Esscom commander effective July 3 from Ali Tamby, who was elevated to the post only two weeks ago on May 18, according to a statement by the Malaysian police federal headquarters.
Victor was previously the deputy police chief in West Malaysia’s Kelantan state, a post which will be taken over by Ali.
The statement did not say the reason for the swap.
Esscom was incepted after a 2013 incursion by militants from the southern Philippine island province of Sulu out to stake their territorial claim over eastern Sabah which saw dozens of militants and 10 members of the Malaysian security services killed.
