IS attacks Philippine police detachment, hurts 3 cops
Dawlah Islamiyah - Hassan Group under commander Yusa Ganoy carries out the attack.
MAGUINDANAO DEL SUR: A pro-Daesh Filipino terror group has attacked a police detachment and injured three policemen in the southern province of Maguindanao del Sur, said an official.
Dawlah Islamiyah - Hassan Group (DI-HG) under commander Yusa Ganoy attacked policemen manning the detachment in Datu Salibo municipality on Aug. 28, 2023, said the Bangsamoro region police chief, Brig. Gen. Allan C. Nobleza, in a statement Wednesday (Aug. 30).
“This act of Dawlah Islamiyah - Hassan Group clearly shows the utter disregard of human life and welfare of the Bangsamoro communities despite the efforts of the local government units, police and military for peace and security of the Bangsamoro people,” said Nobleza.
“Bangsamoro region police will use all its resources to find the people behind this harassment, which targeted our troops who were only performing their duties in maintaining peace and security in the town of Datu Salibo.”
Nobleza said all police units in the Bangsamoro region are on high-alert status effective Aug. 29.
The three policemen were personnel of the Bangsamoro region police’s Regional Mobile Force Battalion 14.
DI-HG was blamed for a series bombings and attacks in the provinces of Maguindanao, North Cotabato and Sultan Kudarat.
The group’s leader, Salahuddin Hassan, and his wife Jehana Minbida, were killed in an army operation in 2021 in the then-undivided Maguindanao province.
He was described as a protégé of the notorious Malaysian bomb maker Zulkifli Bin Hir alias Marwan, who was killed during a 2015 botched police operation in Mamasapano muncipality, also in then-Maguindanao province.
