Indonesia provides psychosocial support to terrorism victims
The effort is a collaboration between the government and the private sector.
JAKARTA: Indonesia's National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) is coordinating with a state-owned company to provide psychosocial support to 40 victims or survivors of terrorism in North Sumatra province.
BNPT was given the mandate to coordinate victim recovery activities at the national, regional and private levels, said BNPT's Protection Director Brigadier General Imam Margono in a statement.
Imam said that the provision of psychosocial support is to support the recovery of survivors after the tragedy they experience and is a mandate under antiterrorism laws.
BNPT also issues a determination letter for terror victims.
Furthermore, BNPT synergises with local governments and other related parties so that survivors get their rights such as medical, psychosocial support, compensation and restitution.
The vice president for community empowerment of the state-owned company, PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminum, Ali Hasian Harahap, said they are committed to supporting BNPT which has involved state-owned enterprises in terrorism victim recovery in the North Sumatra region.
"Terrorism is something that is detrimental, both individually as victims and nationally, because it involves the image of a country and it will later have an impact on the economy of a country," said Ali.
Therefore, said Ali, state-owned companies must support the government in terms of protecting victims of terrorism, as the synergy between them was previously carried out in October 2022.
BNPT is also working with another state firmn, PT Pupuk Kaltim, to provide support to terror survivors in East Kalimantan, said Imam.
Such a good collaboration will continue to be carried out to speed up the recovery process for the victims, he added.
