Four Abu Sayyaf terrorists surrender in southern Philippines
Various parties played a part that led to their surrender.
ZAMBOANGA CITY: Four Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) terrorists surrendered to Philippine authorities in Zamboanga recently.
The combined efforts of the operating units under the Naval Forces Western Mindanao (NFWM) in collaboration with the Joint Task Force - Orion and the Philippine army’s 11th Infantry Division (11ID) as well as the Ministry of Public Order and Safety of the Bangsamoro government led to the surrender of the four at NFWM’s headquarters in Zamboanga City on Sept. 29.
The former ASG members were identified as Jimmy A. Ibnohajar, Jul-Amin Subuhani, Juksin Subuhani and Dhenmar Patta Jamiul, said the NFWM in a statement on Oct.1.
They handed over one cal. 50 Barrett rifle, two Springfield M1 Garand rifle, one M16A1 rifle and assorted live ammunition and magazines.
The men and their high-power firearms were presented to navy chief Vice Adm. Toribio D Adaci Jr. and NFWM commander Rear Adm. Donn Anthony L Miraflor together with Bangsamoro government representatives.
Following their surrender, the four surrendered ASG members underwent medical check-up at Camp Navarro General Hospital.
Subsequently, they were turned over to the Joint Task Force - Orion and 11ID for documentation and possible inclusion in the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Programme and Programme Against Violent Extremism.
The successful surrender demonstrated the relentless efforts made by the NFWM in maintaining security and peace and ensuring the safety and well-being of the people, said the agency.
