Communist terrorist leader killed in northern Mindanao firefight
The Army seize six high-powered firearms from the man.
BUKIDNON: An alleged communist terrorist leader was killed during a firefight with the Philippine Army in the northern Mindanao province of Bukidnon on Aug. 23.
Army operating troops of the 8th Infantry Battalion (8IB), under the 403rd Infantry Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, neutralised Christopher Tingkayan @ Mojen and seized six high-powered firearms in Kulaman village, Malaybalay municipality, the Philippine Army said in a statement.
Acting on the tip-off from a concerned citizen, 8IB troops launched an operation that led to a ten-minute firefight, resulting in the killing of Tingkayan, the commanding officer of Headquarters Force Neo, Regional Operations Command, the North Central Mindanao Regional Committee of the New People’s Army, the armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines.
The troops seized two M16 rifles, two M653 carbine rifles, two M203 grenade launchers, an anti-personnel mine, various war materiel and assorted personal belongings.
“The Army leadership commended the troops of 8IB for their relentless military operation that resulted in the neutralisation of the CTG (communist terrorist group) leader and the seizure of war materiel in Bukidnon,” said the Army.
